Doing Life Together

At their core our small groups are all about friends doing life together. They are about spending time with like minded people often those who are in the same season of life you’re in. Our small groups achieve many things but first and foremost they are to help us facilitate authentic friendships.

Leading a Small Group

Leading a Small Group isn’t about being perfect; it’s about serving others by giving them a place to connect. Hosting a group is simple—choose a topic that interests you and select a time and location to meet with others to share it. We give you essential tools to make your Small Group successful through Leader Training and a directory where we can organise your group. We believe people’s lives are changed one group at a time by moving one step toward Christ, and as a Small Group leader you get to play an important role in that process.

What do Small Groups look like?

Friends doing life together

At their core our small groups are all about friends doing life together. They are about spending time with like minded people often those who are in the same season of life you’re in. Our small groups achieve many things but first and foremost they are to help us facilitate authentic friendships.

Connecting, Growing, Serving

Experience has taught us that groups flourish when they have three important elements working well; when friends are connecting, friends are growing and serving together. This is why every small group in our church includes each of these ingredients. Everyone is different and we often want different things from small groups. With this in mind, the emphasis of each group changes depending on the purpose of the small group. However, no matter what purpose the small group has you’ll always find all three elements working together.

3 Types of Groups

An Emphasis on Connecting

It is easy to feel alone in a crowd but groups become an open door into the life of our church family.  When you are part of a smaller group you experience the love and strength of biblical community. Groups with this emphasis look like friends playing sports together or gathering around a common interest/hobby. They also seek opportunities to serve together whilst also grow together in life and faith.

An Emphasis on Growing

Groups are a place you can be equipped to become more like Jesus and to live a faith-filled life. These groups are a place where leaders are developed and people learn more about their faith. In these groups you’ll find people reading a great books together, discussing Sundays message or following a curriculum. These groups are also built around friendships and seek opportunities to serve together.

An Emphasis on Serving

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of achieving something great and being part of a team. If this is what you’re looking for then these groups are for you! Every team in the life of our church is part of our small group ministry. So whether you’re singing in the worship team, welcoming people at the doors or leading our amazing Kids Church, you’ll be doing it in one of our small groups. Put simply, small groups are teams and teams are small groups - they’re the same thing in Home Church.

When & Where?

Where we meet

Groups meet wherever most suits the group emphasis. Many meet in homes, coffee shops or on a sports field. Of course if your small group is one of the many teams serving across our Sunday services then that where you’ll be!

When we meet

Small groups follow a rhythm each year that best suits the ebb and flow of our church calendar. When a new term begins everyone has opportunity to join a new group with registrations opening two weeks prior to the first month and remain open for the duration of the term. At the end of each term the groups take a one month break with the exception of SERVE groups due to the nature of their focus. Every group meets either weekly or fortnightly and meet any day of the week at a time that works best for those in the group!
